Buffer vs Taplio for LinkedIn creators and founders

Buffer and Taplio both end up on a founder’s shortlist when LinkedIn starts taking a real hour each week. They solve different jobs. Buffer is a multi-network scheduler: one calendar for the LinkedIn profile, a company Page, and the other accounts you already post to, with an AI caption assistant and an inbox for replies. Taplio is a LinkedIn growth suite: a viral-post library, AI writing on the higher plans, a scheduler, analytics, comments, and, on Pro, lead outreach.

Creators search “Buffer vs Taplio” after a demo of one tool started to look like the other. The invoices do not overlap. Buffer bills per connected channel, and a single LinkedIn profile can stay on the free plan. Taplio bills one LinkedIn subscription, and the plan that includes AI writing starts well above Buffer’s one-channel price.

This page is the comparison for a creator or founder who posts as themselves. Prices are from Buffer’s plan and feature table and Taplio’s pricing page on 26 October 2026. Recheck both before you buy. Plan cards move. LinkedIn behavior in Buffer is from Buffer’s LinkedIn help article, same date.

Boykli is a third product, named where the job is producing the draft, a carousel, or an image and then queueing it on a personal profile. It is not a cheaper copy of either suite. The narrower write-ups are Taplio alternative and LinkedIn scheduling tool.

What you are actually buying

Name the bottleneck before you compare logos. A solo founder usually has one of these:

  • The draft does not exist yet. You have a call, a note, a video, or a document, and Monday is empty.
  • The draft exists, and the job is a clock: the same post, or a cut of it, has to land on LinkedIn and on two other networks without you sitting in each composer.
  • The posts go out, and you want a chart of what moved, plus a place to answer comments without opening every app.
  • You want other people’s LinkedIn posts as a swipe file, plus a comment workflow, plus a list of people who engaged.

Buffer’s plan table answers the second job, and part of the third. The AI Assistant is on every plan, including Free, and it writes a caption from a prompt you type. Taplio’s plan cards answer the fourth job, and part of the first, once you leave Starter. Neither card is “the whole founder week on LinkedIn.”

Plan prices

A channel in Buffer is one connected account. A LinkedIn profile is one channel. A LinkedIn company Page is a second channel. An X account is a third. The first ten channels are the expensive band. After that the per-channel rate drops. Taplio does not price this way. One Taplio subscription is one LinkedIn seat, and the annual cards on the comparison table are lower than the monthly cards.

One LinkedIn profile on Buffer Essentials is $6 a month. The same profile plus the company Page is two channels, $12 a month on Essentials monthly billing, $10 a month if you pay the year up front at $60 per channel. Add Instagram, X, and Threads and you are at five channels: $30 a month on Essentials monthly, or $25 a month on the yearly rate ($60 × 5 / 12). Taplio Starter at $39 does not publish those other networks. You would still need a scheduler for them.

Taplio Starter at $39 is more than a year of Buffer Essentials on a single LinkedIn channel ($60). It is also a different product. Taplio’s Starter card does not list AI writing. That row starts on Growth at $69 a month, or $49 on the annual card. Pro at $199, or $149 annually, is the lead-outreach card.

Feature comparison

Buffer’s rows below are from the official feature table: Free, Essentials, and Team. “Paid” means Essentials and Team. Taplio’s rows follow the public comparison table. Where Taplio meters a feature, that table shows 250 AI credits and 500 comment credits against an unlimited column, which lines up with Growth versus Pro. Starter’s plan card lists scheduling, analytics, and consistency, and it does not list AI writing. Treat blank AI rows on Starter as absent until Taplio’s page says otherwise.

Zapier, a Taplio API, and a LinkedIn MCP row are on the comparison table
Company Page vs personal profileBoth. A Page needs a Super Admin to connect it, and the Page is its own channel. A profile is its own channel. Connecting both means you pay for both if you are on a per-channel planPlan cards reviewed for this article lead with personal-profile scheduling, analytics, AI, comments, and leads. Two rows decide most purchases. If the week is “ship the post I already wrote to LinkedIn and three other networks, then answer the comments,” Buffer is the product, and the free plan covers a small queue. If the week is “I still need LinkedIn words, a swipe file, and a comment system measured in credits,” that is Taplio Growth or Pro. Paying Taplio Starter at $39 to do Buffer’s job, or paying Buffer Essentials at $6 and expecting a viral library, is the mismatch this search usually hides.

Boykli’s public seats are BYOK at $29/month and Managed at $88/month. Both seats are the same product. Managed includes monthly caps: 210 posts, 150 carousels, 150 images, 25 Voice Agent sessions, and 130 post refinements. BYOK uses your OpenRouter key for chat and images and your Google AI Studio key for Voice Agent. Boykli does not add a generation cap on that seat. You still pay those providers. A paid seat is required before the app will write, create a carousel or image, publish, or schedule. Logged-in visitors can browse Radar and Algorithm without one.

A practical way to choose

Do this with last month’s actual work, not with the feature list you might use.

  1. List every account you published to in the last 30 days. Count LinkedIn profiles, LinkedIn Pages, and every other network as separate lines. That count is Buffer’s channel count. One profile is one channel. A profile and a Page are two.
  2. If the list is one LinkedIn profile, the posts already exist, and you never have more than ten of them waiting, Buffer’s free plan matches the job: 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel, the AI Assistant, a calendar, and the Community inbox. Essentials at $6 a month (or $60 for the year) is the upgrade when the queue cap, the first comment, tags, or a longer analytics range is the thing you hit. Taplio Starter at $39 is a poor trade for that same queue.
  3. If the list is one profile plus a Page plus two other networks, price Buffer before you price Taplio. Four channels on Essentials is $24 a month on monthly billing, or $20 a month on the yearly per-channel rate ($60 × 4 / 12). Team doubles the first-ten rate because you need a second login or an approval step: $12 per channel per month, or $120 per channel per year. Taplio will not post the non-LinkedIn lines. You would add Buffer, or another scheduler, on top of Taplio and pay both.
  4. If the count is mostly “I still need the LinkedIn words,” open Taplio’s Growth card ($69, 250 AI credits on the comparison table) next to Boykli’s $29 and $88 seats. Taplio’s words are tied to its viral library and its credit meter. Boykli’s words start from your material: a note, Voice Agent, a YouTube video, an article, a document, or a series. The constraint is intentional. The longer version is why Boykli was built. Buffer’s AI Assistant can draft a caption from a prompt on the free plan. It is not a system that ingests a call recording or a PDF and returns a post plus a designed carousel.
  5. If the count includes comment credits, lead lists, auto-DM, or connection requests, stay on the Taplio plan that lists them. Buffer’s Community inbox replies to comments on posts you already published. It does not build a lead list. Boykli does not either. Automated comments, bulk DMs, and connection requests are a different risk category from a queue that publishes one approved post. What LinkedIn has published about automated activity on the website is in automated LinkedIn posting. Read that before you treat any vendor’s “safe automation” line as a guarantee.
  6. If you are about to connect several personal LinkedIn profiles and push the same text through all of them, stop. Buffer’s own LinkedIn article says duplicate content across profiles is a common path to a suspension, and that personal profiles are meant to be run by their owners. One founder profile, with unique posts, is the setup both Buffer and Boykli are built around.

A clean solo stack is one of these: Buffer Free or Essentials when the posts exist and the calendar has to cover LinkedIn plus other networks; Taplio Growth or Pro when the viral library, AI credits, comments, or leads are the reason for the invoice; Boykli when the hour disappears before a draft and a carousel exist, and you will put your name on the result.

Scheduling a LinkedIn PDF

Document posts are where founders feel the product gap.

Buffer schedules a PDF you already made. The help article allows one PDF per post, up to 100MB and 300 pages, on every plan including Free, from the web composer. The post will not schedule until the document has a title. Mobile scheduling for that document is listed as coming later. Buffer does not choose the slide size, the type, or the colors. If the deck is a Canva file, the Canva integration is how the media gets in. The design still happens in Canva. Dimensions, the 220px safe zone, and why a square or a portrait frame matters are in LinkedIn carousel dimensions.

Taplio’s comparison table lists an AI carousel generator on the credit rows. On Growth that spend comes out of the 250 AI credits. On Pro the AI column is unlimited. You are buying generation inside Taplio, metered until you are on Pro. You are not buying Buffer’s multi-network calendar.

Boykli builds the carousel PDF on the carousel page from the brand kit and publishes that PDF with the personal-profile post. It does not schedule the same PDF to Instagram or X. It does not attach an arbitrary 300-page report as a LinkedIn document. The practical split: design and queue the LinkedIn document in Boykli when the slides do not exist yet; schedule a finished PDF across networks in Buffer when the file is already done; use Taplio’s generator when you want the carousel inside the same login as the viral library and the comment credits.

A few Buffer limits matter on the day you schedule, whatever tool you compared it with. Buffer cannot set a LinkedIn post to “Connections only,” because the API does not offer that control, so a limited-audience post still goes out in LinkedIn’s own composer. Buffer will not publish to a LinkedIn group. A Page connects only through a Super Admin, and while that channel is unauthorized nothing in the queue goes out and analytics do not backfill. Buffer also states a LinkedIn daily cap of 50 posts per 24 hours. A founder posting three times a week will not touch it. A team dumping a backlog into one profile will.

Analytics, timing, and the inbox

Creators blur these screens. They are different products.

Buffer’s Insights cover the channel you select, Page or profile. The sent-post view is on every plan. Extended ranges and exportable reports are paid. Engagement rate is not calculated the same way on both account types: Pages use the rate LinkedIn reports, and profiles use reactions and comments relative to impressions, because Buffer says LinkedIn’s reshare data for profiles is not reliable enough to include. If Buffer’s number and LinkedIn’s native number disagree, Buffer documents that gap. The tool also publishes its own timing studies. A reading of those studies next to other 2026 datasets is in best time to post on LinkedIn. Buffer does not set Boykli’s queue, and Boykli does not read Buffer’s chart.

Taplio’s Starter card says “track core metrics with analytics.” The comparison table adds a monthly stats email, analytics inside the extension, and repurposing a top post from the analytics tab using AI credits. That is a performance loop attached to the growth suite.

Boykli does not show impressions, saves, sends, or a best-time model. If the subscription feels worth it on Monday because of a chart or an inbox, Boykli is the wrong seat. Use Buffer when the chart has to sit next to Instagram and the comment inbox. Use Taplio when the chart has to sit next to a viral library and comment credits.

FAQ

Is Buffer or Taplio better for a founder who only posts on LinkedIn?

If the posts are already written, Buffer. The free plan queues 10 posts on that profile, and Essentials is $6 a month or $60 for the year for the one channel. Taplio Starter at $39 adds a LinkedIn scheduler and core analytics, and the plan card does not include the AI writing people assume is in every Taplio login. Move to Taplio when you want the viral library, Growth’s AI credits, or Pro’s lead outreach. Move to Boykli when the missing piece is the draft and a carousel on that same personal profile.

Is Buffer’s free plan enough for a personal LinkedIn profile?

For a light queue, yes. Free includes 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel, 100 ideas, the AI Assistant, a calendar, bulk upload, Insights, and the Community inbox, including replies on LinkedIn. LinkedIn PDF scheduling is on Free. The first comment, campaign tags, the prioritize option, extended analytics ranges, and exportable reports are Essentials and Team. A second user is Team, which prices the channel at $12 a month or $120 a year.

Does Taplio replace Buffer if I also post on X, Instagram, or a company Page?

No. Taplio’s pricing page is a LinkedIn product. Each extra account in Buffer is another channel. A personal profile and a company Page are two channels, and the Page has to be connected by a Super Admin. Five channels on Essentials are $30 a month on monthly billing or $25 a month on the yearly rate. That stack still does not include Taplio’s viral library or lead tools.

Which one writes the post?

Buffer’s AI Assistant, on every plan, drafts a caption from a prompt. Taplio’s post generator, idea finder, and draft improver sit on the AI-credit rows: 250 credits on the metered column, unlimited on Pro, and absent from Starter’s plan card. Boykli writes from your own material on a paid seat, including Voice Agent, and can turn the same effort into a carousel PDF. A caption assistant, a viral-library generator, and a draft built from a source you supply are three different writing products.

Can I schedule a LinkedIn carousel in both?

Buffer schedules a PDF you upload, one document per post, up to 100MB and 300 pages, with a required title, on every plan. Taplio lists an AI carousel generator that spends AI credits on Growth. Boykli designs the PDF in the product and queues it on the personal profile. If the file already exists, Buffer’s document row is the one that states the limit. If the slides do not exist yet, the generator or the brand-kit builder is the decision, and Buffer is where you send a copy only if another network needs it.

What does Boykli cost next to these two?

BYOK is $29 a month. Managed is $88 a month. One LinkedIn channel on Buffer Essentials is $6 a month, or $60 a year, and the free plan is $0 inside its caps. Taplio Starter is $39, or $32 on the annual card, and Growth is $69, or $49 annually. Managed at $88 sits under Taplio Pro at $199 and over Growth at $69. A $29 seat that does not include multi-network publishing, an inbox, analytics, comments, or leads is a bad trade for someone who uses those every week, and a direct trade for someone whose missing piece is the draft and the carousel.

Will my Buffer queue or Taplio lists move?

No. Boykli cannot import a Buffer calendar, a Taplio viral-post collection, a lead list, a comment history, or an impressions archive. Export what you need before you cancel. A PDF you made elsewhere can be rebuilt or attached again. The swipe file and the chart stay in the product that collected them.

Use Boykli for the draft

Posts, carousels, images, Voice Agent, and a personal-profile queue. Multi-network calendars, analytics, comments, and leads stay on the tools that sell them.
