Canva vs a dedicated LinkedIn carousel generator
A Canva vs dedicated LinkedIn carousel generator comparison is a file comparison. LinkedIn does not have a separate carousel object for an ordinary post. You upload one document, and the feed paginates it. Canva and Boykli can both produce that PDF. They do not do the same work on the way there.
Canva is a page editor. You set a canvas, place type and pictures, and download a PDF. Boykli is a LinkedIn writing product. The carousel page takes a topic of up to 2,000 characters and returns a new PDF, a document title, and a caption. You download that PDF or publish it on the personal profile you connect. The map of topic, idea, and file starts is LinkedIn carousel generator. This page is only the Canva path beside that one.
What LinkedIn accepts, whoever designed the file
LinkedIn Help, "Upload and share documents on LinkedIn," states the ceiling: the file cannot exceed 100 MB and 300 pages. Supported types are PPT, PPTX, DOC, DOCX, and PDF. After the post is up, you can edit the description or remove the post. You cannot replace the document inside the post. Members who can see the post can download it as a PDF. That help article does not publish a required pixel size.
The sizes people actually ship are a choice about phones. Square at 1080 by 1080, and portrait at 1080 by 1350, are the two canvases Boykli renders. The pixel math, the 220px safe zone, and the type ramp on that 1080-wide page are in LinkedIn carousel dimensions. A landscape slide deck, the 16:9 file a presentation tool exports by default, still uploads. On a phone it is a short strip with small type. Canva will let you build that size. Boykli will not. A Figma frame uses the same two sizes, then one PDF at 1x. The frame width, the page order, and the export scale are in Figma to LinkedIn carousel.
Three hundred pages is a ceiling. Boykli stops the form at 8 slides. A cover, the points, and a close usually fit in 5 to 7. A 20-page leave-behind is a Canva or slides job, then a manual document upload. It is outside the generator.
The two instruments
| Canva | Boykli carousel page | |
|---|---|---|
| What you start with | A blank custom size, a template, or a prompt that fills pages inside the editor | A topic, up to 2,000 characters. An ideas list can fill that box. A PDF does not upload here |
| Who places the type | You, in boxes, or a generated layout you then nudge | The model, in the design you picked. HTML and CSS: type, shapes, gradients, SVG |
| Photographs on a slide | Yes. Stock and your own uploads are the point of the editor | No. A product photo is a different output, a single image, not a document post |
| Page size | Whatever you set. Portrait and square are choices you have to make | Square, 1080 by 1080, or portrait, 1080 by 1350 |
| Page count | As many as you add, up to LinkedIn's 300 | 2 to 8. Default is 5 |
| Editing one word | Click the box | Change the topic and create again. Title and caption edit in place. There is no per-box editor |
| Brand | Brand Kit: colors, fonts, logos, on the plan Canva gives you | One kit on the carousel page: canvas color, accent, logo, profile photo, handle. Author strip and logo are toggles. Brand colors on locks the design to Normal |
| File you download | The PDF you export. Guides tell you PDF Standard, and PDF Print for paper | A PDF of the slides |
| How it reaches LinkedIn | You upload the document in LinkedIn, or in a scheduler that accepts documents | Download, post now, or queue. Personal profile only. Company pages are outside the product |
| Caption | You write it in LinkedIn, up to the 3,000 characters LinkedIn allows on a post | Stored with the deck, up to 3,000 characters. The document title is separate, up to 120 characters |
The row that decides the tool is the editing row. If the work is "move this word four pixels and swap the photo," Canva is built for that. If the work is "here is the argument, give me a deck I will read before it ships," the generator is built for that. A wrong line in Boykli stays wrong until you change the topic. A wrong line in Canva is a click.

Create the deck from the outline
Topic in, PDF out, on the personal profile you connect. BYOK is $29/month. Managed is $88/month.
boykli.com →Where Canva is the right finish
Keep the design in Canva when any of these are true.
The slide needs a photograph, a screenshot, or a chart that is an image. Boykli slides do not place a photo. Redrawing a chart as type is a different deck. Leaving the image in Canva is the honest path.
The layout is already a brand template your team maintains: a footer, a specific type ramp, a grid someone art-directed. Boykli has eight named designs. Neo-Brutalist is the default. The others are Bauhaus, Retro Terminal, Infographic / Data Guide, Bold & Edgy, Creator Gradient, Split-Screen, and Normal. Normal is the one that uses your brand-kit canvas and accent. That is a kit, not a recreation of a Canva master file. If the master file is the asset, export the master file.
You need more than eight pages. LinkedIn will take up to 300. The generator will not build them.
You are posting as a company page. Boykli's LinkedIn connection publishes the personal profile. A Page post is LinkedIn's own composer, or another tool, with the PDF attached.
You already finished the PDF. The carousel page does not import an existing PDF as slides. Uploading a Canva file into Boykli will not "continue" those pages. Publish the file you have. The same rule is on the PDF to LinkedIn carousel page: a file that is already a deck should stay that file.
Where the generator is the right start
Use Boykli when the missing piece is the argument, not the kerning.
You have a note, a meeting, or one lesson from a longer file, and you do not yet have pages. Create posts can pull one lesson from a text PDF, a Word file, or Markdown, up to 7 MB, and the carousel topic is where that lesson becomes slides. The extractor and the slide-count choices are on the PDF page linked above. The carousel form itself is still a text box.
You want the same design system every time without maintaining a template: one of the eight looks, plus an optional brand kit, and a PDF that matches. Save the kit before you create. An unsaved color change blocks the button.
You want the document title, the caption, and the queue in the same place as the file. The title is the name LinkedIn shows on the document. The caption is the commentary in the feed. The queue takes the next open slot you configured. How that slot is chosen is in Schedule LinkedIn posts. The queue does not read analytics and pick a "best time." It posts the personal profile.
The product was built so the claim stays yours. The longer version of that choice is building Boykli. The model writes the lines from the topic. A number that is not in the topic does not belong on a slide. Canva's text tools will also invent a statistic if you ask them for one. In both tools, you are the person who deletes it.
One outline, both paths
Use this note. It is short enough to finish in either tool, and specific enough that a generic template is obvious.
Cover: the onboarding email that new users actually finish. Slide 2: we send it after the first successful action, not at signup. Slide 3: one task, not a tour. Slide 4: the subject line names the task. Slide 5: we cut the P.S. that asked for a referral. Close: copy the timing rule, not our wording. No extra numbers.
That is six slides. Nothing in it is a metric. A tool that adds "increased activation 40%" has failed the note.
Path A, Canva, then LinkedIn
- Create a design at a custom size of 1080 by 1350 pixels if you want portrait, or 1080 by 1080 if you want square. Do this before you design. Resizing a finished square template into portrait reflows every box. LinkedIn does not force the ratio. Mixed page sizes in one PDF are a bad upload. Keep every page the same.
- Add six pages. Put one sentence from the note on each page. The cover is the first sentence. The close is the timing rule. If you start from a template, delete the template's sample metrics. They are not your note.
- If you use Canva's layout generator to fill the pages from a prompt, paste the six sentences as the prompt and then read every box. A generated layout is still your post once it is on LinkedIn. Magic Write, or whatever the text tool is named in your account, is a general writer. It has not read your last posts.
- Set type large enough to read on a phone. A body size that looks elegant on a laptop is often unread at arm's length. Keep the important words inside the edges. LinkedIn's viewer does not promise your full bleed.
- Download PDF Standard. An export guide written for this handoff (Willow, February 2026) tells people to use PDF Standard, and to reserve PDF Print for paper. Print exports are heavier. If a test upload looks dull or the type swaps, flatten or switch the export and test again. Stay far under 100 MB. A six-page deck with no photo is nowhere near that ceiling.
- In LinkedIn, start a post, add a document, choose the PDF, set the document title, and write the description. Help says you can also pick the file from Dropbox or Google Drive. You get one document on the post. After it is live, the description can change and the file cannot.
- Check the Content Planner before you plan a week of decks around it. This page did not retest Canva's share dialog. Two reviews of the planner (Postiv, October 2025, and Postory, April 2026) describe the LinkedIn destination as a JPG, around a 10 MB image cap, with a caption around 1,300 characters. That is an image post. A carousel is a document. If the planner in your account refuses the PDF, upload the document in LinkedIn. Confirm the file types in the menu you have. A review is not that menu.
Path B, Boykli
- Open the carousel page. Paste the note into the topic. You can label the slides the way the note already does. Stay under 2,000 characters. This note is far under.
- Tone: Normal. Humor would treat the onboarding rule as a joke.
- Shape: Portrait, because each slide is a short rule plus a label. Square if you want a card.
- Slide count: 6, matching the outline. The form allows 2 through 8.
- Design: Infographic / Data Guide for a sequence, or Neo-Brutalist if you want it less like a report. If brand-kit colors are on, the only design available is Normal. The other seven stay disabled until brand colors are off.
- Model: Grok 4.6 is the default. The picker also offers Gemini 3.5 Flash, Claude Sonnet 5, and GPT-5.6 Terra. There is no silent swap.
- Create. A large deck can take a few minutes. The page stops the attempt at about eight minutes.
- Read every slide against the note. "40%" or a customer name you did not type is a failed deck. Change the topic and create again. That is a new carousel generation. On Managed, generations count. Reading the preview and downloading the PDF again do not.
- Set the document title, up to 120 characters. LinkedIn shows it as the name of the PDF. Write the caption, up to 3,000 characters. The title is required when you add the PDF to the queue.
- Download, post now, or queue. Publishing uses the personal profile from LinkedIn OAuth.
The file you publish from path B is the new PDF. The Canva file from path A, if you also made one, is a different file. Do not expect the pixels to match.
What you pay for each seat
Prices move. The Boykli figures are the public ones on boykli.com. The Canva figures are what several pricing roundups reported from Canva's own page in October 2026, before tax. Canva's pricing page did not load from this server (a Cloudflare block), so confirm the amount at checkout.
| Canva, as reported October 2026 | Boykli | |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0. Roundups described one Brand Kit limited to three colors, and 5 GB storage | No generation without a seat. Logged-in visitors can browse Radar and Algorithm |
| Solo paid | Pro at $18 a month, or $144 a year for one person | BYOK $29 a month, or Managed $88 a month. One person. Same product on both seats |
| Team | Business reported at $25 a month or $250 a year per person | No shared seat. Each person has their own account |
| What the paid seat is for | The editor, the larger library, Brand Kits, and scheduling of the post types Canva supports | Writing, carousels, images, Voice Agent, LinkedIn publish, and the queue |
| Carousel volume | No Boykli-style generation cap. Your time is the cap | Managed includes 150 carousel generations in the month, inside wider caps (210 posts, 150 images, 25 Voice Agent sessions, 130 post refinements). BYOK has no Boykli monthly cap. You pay OpenRouter for chat and images |
A Canva Pro seat does not include Boykli, and a Boykli seat does not include Canva's template library or photo tools. People who keep both are paying for two jobs: art direction in one, and the LinkedIn file plus the queue in the other. People who only need the argument and a consistent PDF can skip the editor.
A carousel generation is one create. Rewriting the topic and creating again spends another one on Managed. A third pass on a bad line is still cheaper than a deck that invents a metric, and it is still a counted create.
What to check on the PDF before it is public
- Every page is the same size. Portrait or square, not a mix, and not a 16:9 slide that only made sense on a projector.
- Every number is in the note you started from. Both tools will sound sure.
- The first page can stand alone. The feed shows it before anyone swipes.
- The document title is a title. The caption is the post. They are different fields in Boykli, and they are different fields in LinkedIn's composer.
- You can live with the file being downloadable. LinkedIn Help says viewers can save it as a PDF.
- You know you cannot swap the file after publish. A typo on slide 4 is a new post.
- The account is the one you meant. Boykli will not post the PDF as a company page.
FAQ
Can I drop a Canva PDF into Boykli and keep the design?
No. The carousel page does not import an existing PDF as slides. If the Canva file is the design you want, upload that file to LinkedIn. If you want Boykli to design a new deck, paste the words into the topic. The layout will be one of Boykli's designs, not your Canva pages.
Can I paste Canva slide text and get a cleaner deck?
Yes. Copy the sentences into the topic, set the slide count to match, and create. Read the result against the sentences. The new PDF will not preserve Canva's positions, fonts, or photos.
Which Canva export should I upload?
Use PDF Standard for the document post. Keep the file under LinkedIn's 100 MB and 300-page limits, with one size on every page. If the preview looks wrong, export again before you publish. You cannot replace the document later.
Will Canva's planner post the PDF for me?
Treat that as something you test in your account. Reviews of the Content Planner describe LinkedIn scheduling as an image post, not a multi-page document. Boykli's queue does take the carousel PDF, on the personal profile, into the next open slot.
Why does Boykli stop at eight slides?
The form stops at 8. A longer swipe is a different product decision, and Canva will build it. Eight is enough for a cover, a handful of claims, and a close. Past that, people are reading a document that happens to swipe.
Can I fix one word without rebuilding?
In Canva, yes. In Boykli, you edit the document title and the caption directly. Slide copy is part of the generated design. Change the topic and create again. There is no drag on a text box.
Does this replace a template product?
Canva is the general template editor. A LinkedIn-only template maker is a narrower version of the same job. Boykli is the generator path in the table above. If you live in the boxes, stay in the boxes.
What does the Boykli seat cost?
BYOK is $29 a month. Managed is $88 a month. Managed includes 150 carousel generations in the month. BYOK uses your OpenRouter key and has no Boykli monthly cap. Creating, publishing, and scheduling require the seat.
