Sprout Social alternative for indie founders and LinkedIn creators
Sprout Social is a social suite sold per seat. One login can hold a LinkedIn profile, a LinkedIn company Page, and other networks, then add an inbox, review management, and reporting as the plan climbs. An indie founder who posts three times a week under their own name is shopping for a different product: the words, a document the feed can swipe, and a clock on that one profile.
People search “Sprout Social alternative” after a trial, or after a quote, and discover the invoice is built for a social team. The cheapest published seat is still a publishing platform with a profile cap, an AI credit meter, and an annual prepay. It is a poor fit when the only account that published last month was a personal LinkedIn profile, and the draft still does not exist.
Prices below are from Sprout Social’s pricing page, read on 26 October 2026, including the monthly rates in the billing FAQ and the plan fields the page ships with. LinkedIn behavior is from Sprout’s help: posting to a personal LinkedIn profile, which post types Sprout can publish, media upload limits, which LinkedIn messages appear in Sprout, and connecting a LinkedIn profile. Recheck both vendors before you pay. Seat cards move.
Boykli is the narrower product in this comparison. It writes the LinkedIn draft, builds a carousel PDF, and queues that post on the personal profile you connect. The adjacent pages are LinkedIn scheduling tool, Taplio alternative, and why Boykli was built. How a member queue differs from a company Page tool is in LinkedIn personal profile scheduler.
What you are actually buying
Name the author and the networks before you name the logo.
- The post goes out under your name, on LinkedIn only, and the words still have to come from a call, a note, a video, or a document.
- The same week includes a LinkedIn profile, a LinkedIn Page, and other networks, and a teammate needs the calendar.
- Incoming comments, reviews, and Page messages have to land in one inbox.
- You need competitor or paid reporting, message tags, or an API into a helpdesk.
Sprout’s plan cards answer the second, third, and fourth jobs. Essentials is the publishing slice of that suite: up to five social profiles, optimal send times, profile- and post-level reporting, and Trellis. The consolidated inbox, collaboration tools, keyword and location monitoring, and review management start on Standard. A personal-brand essay does not require that operating system. A brand calendar with a shared inbox does not fit inside a LinkedIn-only writing seat.
A personal LinkedIn profile counts toward Sprout’s profile allotment. So does a LinkedIn company Page. Connecting a Page requires a super admin. Sprout does not connect LinkedIn groups or LinkedIn university personal profiles. Five profiles on Essentials or Standard is five of those lines, not five posts.
Plan prices
Sprout bills per seat. The large numbers on the plan cards are annual-billing rates, in US dollars, before tax. The page labels the hero as annual billing. The billing FAQ prints the month-to-month rates and says annual billing is a one-time upfront payment for the whole term. Month-to-month is higher and is a shorter commitment. There is no free plan. The trial is 30 days, no credit card. When it ends, Sprout asks you to pick a plan and enter payment. You can switch plans during the trial.
| Annual, per seat / month | Month-to-month, per seat | Profiles | What the card adds | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $79 ($948 for the year, paid upfront) | $99 | 5 | Publishing, optimal send times, profile- and post-level reporting, Trellis |
| Standard | $199 ($2,388 for the year) | $249 | 5 | Consolidated inbox and collaboration, keyword and location monitoring, review management, Trellis. 10 brand keywords per group |
| Professional | $299 ($3,588 for the year). The card is marked most popular | $399 | Unlimited | Message tagging, competitor, tag, and paid insights, Enhance Post by AI Assist. 10 brand keywords per group |
| Advanced | $399 ($4,788 for the year) | $499 | Unlimited | Enhance Reply by AI Assist, sentiment in the Smart Inbox and reviews, the Sprout API and helpdesk integrations, team productivity and customer-care reports, message spike alerts. 20 brand keywords per group |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | White-glove onboarding, a tailored plan, SSO setup, priority support |
Every published plan includes 100 Trellis credits per seat per month. The credits reset monthly. Sprout’s FAQ says usage depends on how broad the prompt is and how much data Trellis has to pull. Trellis Plus, if the base allowance is too small, is $28 per user per month on annual billing and $35 per user per month on monthly billing. That is an add-on on top of the seat.
Premium Analytics and Listening are separate add-ons, available from Standard upward. Employee Advocacy is the same: Standard and up, sold as its own product, for pushing approved stories to employees’ own networks. Influencer Marketing is a separate Sprout product and does not require a Sprout plan. None of those add-on prices are on the base plan cards, so a quote that only shows $79 or $199 is incomplete if listening, advocacy, or extra AI credits are in the scope.
One founder on Essentials, billed annually, pays $948 before tax for the year, upfront. The same person on month-to-month Essentials pays $99 each month and can leave sooner. A second person who needs a login is a second seat at the same rate. Two people on Standard, annual, are $398 a month and $4,776 for the year before any add-on.
Boykli’s public seats are BYOK at $29/month and Managed at $88/month. Both seats are the same product. Managed includes monthly caps: 210 posts, 150 carousels, 150 images, 25 Voice Agent sessions, and 130 post refinements. BYOK uses your OpenRouter key for chat and images and your Google AI Studio key for Voice Agent. Boykli does not add a generation cap on that seat. You still pay those providers. A paid seat is required before the app will write, create a carousel or image, publish, or schedule. Logged-in visitors can browse Radar and Algorithm without one.
| One person, LinkedIn only | Sprout | Boykli |
|---|---|---|
| Cheapest published seat | Essentials, $79/month on annual billing, paid upfront for the year, or $99 month-to-month | BYOK $29/month. Managed $88/month |
| What that seat is for | Up to five social profiles, a publishing calendar, optimal send times, profile and post reporting, 100 Trellis credits | Drafts, a carousel PDF, images, Voice Agent, and a queue on one personal LinkedIn profile |
| Inbox | Starts on Standard, at $199 annual or $249 month-to-month | None |
| Second login | Another full seat | Another subscription if a second account needs its own seat. There is no shared social inbox to split |
| Trial | 30 days, no credit card | Checkout is on Settings after you have seen the product surfaces you can browse |
Essentials at $79 a month on the annual rate is already more than BYOK and a dollar under Managed’s $88, and the two $79 and $88 seats do different work. Essentials can hold four other profiles beside LinkedIn and will report on them. It will not turn a customer call into a designed carousel. Managed at $88 will write and design for LinkedIn and will not run Instagram, a review site, or a shared inbox.
Feature comparison
Sprout rows follow the pricing page and the help articles above. Where a help article and an older community thread disagree, the help article wins. Sprout’s current media article says PDF uploads for LinkedIn document posts are supported, at a maximum of 100 MB and 300 pages, and that DOC, DOCX, PPT, and PPTX are not uploaded through Sprout.
| Capability | Sprout Social | Boykli |
|---|---|---|
| Networks | X, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, Instagram business profiles, Pinterest, YouTube brand accounts, Bluesky, Threads, WhatsApp, Trustpilot. Facebook personal profiles cannot be published to | LinkedIn personal profile only |
| Personal LinkedIn profile | Supported. Compose, the publishing calendar, Sprout Queue, and Optimal Send Times. The profile counts as one of the plan’s social profiles | The only author the queue publishes as |
| Company Page | Supported. A super admin connects the Page. The Page counts as its own profile. Audience targeting is available on Page posts. Boosting a personal profile post is not supported from Sprout | Personal profile only. Page announcements stay on LinkedIn’s Page clock or on a Page tool |
| Where the words come from | Trellis, 100 credits per seat per month on every plan. Professional adds Enhance Post by AI Assist. The credits are a research and drafting allowance inside the suite. Sprout does not list a mode that ingests your call, YouTube video, or PDF as the source | Create posts: short, medium, long, YouTube, article, series, document. Voice Agent turns a conversation into drafts. The constraint is the source you supply. The longer version is BYOK LinkedIn tool |
| Carousels and documents | You attach a finished PDF. Limit through Sprout: 100 MB and 300 pages. LinkedIn polls, live posts, and event posts are created in LinkedIn. Up to nine images on a LinkedIn post | Carousel page and brand kit, on a paid seat, typically 2–8 slides. The builder is described in LinkedIn carousel generator. Boykli does not attach a 300-page report |
| Scheduling | Immediately, Sprout Queue, or a specific day and time. Optimal send times are on the Essentials card and on personal-profile publishing | You pick the days, the time of day, and the timezone for the personal profile |
| Inbox and comments | Standard and above: consolidated inbox. Sprout’s message table includes comments on personal posts (daily update, backfill of the last 90 days, up to 1,000 top-level comments) and company Page messages. Direct messages on a personal profile are listed as unavailable. Sentiment and reply AI land on Advanced | No comment inbox and no DM tool. Algorithm is a reading of LinkedIn’s public notes |
| Analytics | Profile- and post-level reporting from Essentials. Competitor, tag, and paid insights on Professional. Premium Analytics and Listening are paid add-ons from Standard up | No post analytics dashboard |
| Team and approvals | Per seat. Tags are called out on Professional and Advanced. Advanced adds team productivity and customer-care reports, plus the API | One operator queue. A second person is a second account, not an approval chain inside one Sprout group |
| Reviews and other networks | Review management on Standard. The same seat can hold the networks listed above, inside the profile cap | Out of scope |
Two rows decide the purchase. If the week is “the LinkedIn profile, the company Page, Instagram, and a shared inbox,” Sprout Standard is the product, and $199 per seat on annual billing is the cost of that scope. If the week is “the personal-profile draft and the PDF still have to be made,” Sprout is a calendar for a file you do not have yet. Paying $79 a month, upfront for the year, to schedule one profile is a large publishing system for a small queue.

boykli.com →A practical way to choose
Use last month’s accounts and last month’s drafts. A feature you might try is a weak reason to add a seat.
- List every profile that published in the last 30 days. A LinkedIn personal profile is one line. A LinkedIn company Page is another. Instagram, TikTok, X, a Facebook Page, YouTube, and a review site are their own lines. That count is what Sprout calls social profiles. Five lines fit on Essentials or Standard. The sixth line is Professional, at $299 per seat per month on annual billing.
- If the list is one personal LinkedIn profile and the posts already exist in a doc, Sprout Essentials at $79 per seat per month on annual billing ($948 upfront) is a five-profile suite for a one-profile calendar. LinkedIn’s own composer also has a clock for a profile. Boykli at $29 or $88 is the wrong trade if you only needed a clock and you already have the words. The scheduling comparison for a finished post is in schedule LinkedIn posts.
- If the list is one profile plus a Page plus other networks, price Sprout before you price a LinkedIn-only tool. One Essentials seat covers five profiles, optimal send times, and reporting, and it does not include the inbox. The inbox, collaboration, keyword monitoring, and review management are Standard, at $199 annual or $249 month-to-month. A second person who must log in is another seat. Two Standard seats on the annual rate are $4,776 for the year, paid upfront, before Listening or Premium Analytics.
- If the gap is the LinkedIn words, put Boykli’s $29 and $88 seats next to Trellis. Trellis is included, then metered at 100 credits per seat. A broad question spends more credits than a narrow one, and Trellis Plus is another $28 or $35 per user. Boykli’s writing starts from material you supply: a note, Voice Agent, a YouTube video, an article, a document, or a series. Sprout’s AI drafts inside a social suite. It is not a system that turns a call into a designed LinkedIn carousel. A LinkedIn-native writing product with its own credit meter, if that is the comparison you were also running, is covered in Taplio alternative.
- If the gap is comments on the company Page, reviews on other networks, or a helpdesk, stay on Sprout. Standard is the first inbox. Advanced is where sentiment, Enhance Reply, spike alerts, and the Sprout API show up, at $399 per seat per month on annual billing or $499 month-to-month. Boykli does not read the inbox and does not reply as you. Personal-profile DMs are already outside Sprout’s message table, so leaving Sprout does not take away a personal-DM queue Sprout was running.
- If a teammate must approve copy across several brands, that requirement is a Sprout group with seats and the permissions Sprout assigns (read only, needs approval, can reply, full publishing). It is not a Boykli seat. Buy the seats when the approval step is real work.
A clean solo stack is one of these. Sprout Essentials when several profiles share a calendar and you do not need the inbox yet. Sprout Standard or above when the inbox, reviews, or unlimited profiles are the reason for the invoice. Boykli when the hour disappears before a draft and a carousel exist, and the author is your personal profile.
The same Monday, in order
This is the founder week Sprout does not shorten: you have a customer call, a half-written note, and nothing on the profile for Thursday.
- Write down the point in one sentence before any tool opens. “We cut onboarding from eleven steps to four, and the support tickets that mentioned setup dropped the next week.” If you cannot say the point, Trellis and a post generator will invent a weaker one. That failure mode is the reason Boykli’s write modes start from a source.
- On Boykli, open Create posts and use the mode that matches the source. A note becomes a short, medium, or long post. A YouTube URL becomes a teaser. An article URL becomes a post from the piece. A call can go through Voice Agent, which interviews and returns drafts. The managed caps above apply on the $88 seat. The $29 seat uses your own provider keys and has no Boykli generation cap.
- If the point has steps, numbers, or a before-and-after, build the carousel on the carousel page with the brand kit (canvas, accent, logo, handle) and one of the layouts. Keep it to a handful of slides. A 300-page PDF is a Sprout attachment limit, not a feed format. Slide size and the safe zone are in LinkedIn carousel dimensions.
- Read the draft on the preview the way it will sit in the feed. Cut the throat-clearing first line. The post should contain the point, not announce that a point is coming.
- Queue it on the personal profile: the weekdays you actually post, one time of day, one timezone. Do not also paste the same paragraph onto the company Page that morning. Followers who follow both will see a duplicate, and the Page post will read like a person pretending to be a logo.
- Leave Sprout in place if the Page, Instagram, or the review inbox still need a home. The personal-profile essay moves. The brand calendar stays. Paying both is rational when the jobs are different. Paying Sprout Essentials only for the essay is the overlap to delete.
How a finished PDF is queued on a personal profile, including the case where the slides already exist, is in how to schedule a PDF on LinkedIn. How Hootsuite’s per-user suite compares with a LinkedIn growth plan is in Hootsuite vs Taplio. Sprout is the more expensive end of that same suite category: Essentials at $79 is already under Hootsuite’s published Standard floor of $99 only if you stay on Essentials and skip the inbox.
What you give up if you leave Sprout
Leaving Sprout for a LinkedIn writing tool drops real surface area. Count it before you cancel.
- Other networks. Boykli will not publish the Instagram post, the TikTok, the Facebook Page, or the YouTube community post. If those shipped from Sprout last month, they need another home or they stop.
- The inbox. Comments on personal posts can appear in Sprout, on a daily pull, with a 90-day backfill. Company Page messages can appear in real time. Review management starts on Standard. None of that moves to Boykli.
- Reporting. Essentials already includes profile- and post-level reporting. Professional adds competitor, tag, and paid insights. Boykli’s Algorithm page explains how LinkedIn describes distribution. It does not chart your last twelve posts.
- Optimal send times computed from the profiles Sprout is already watching, and a five-profile cap that lets a solo operator hold a Page and three other accounts beside the personal profile.
- Team permissions, asset-library approvals, and, on Advanced, an API. A founder working alone does not feel this loss. A contractor who submits drafts into a Sprout group does.
What you keep, if you move the personal profile only, is the writing path Sprout never sold: a draft from your own material, a carousel in your colors, and a queue that publishes as you. The company Page can stay on Sprout, or on LinkedIn’s native Page calendar, without dragging the essay into a $199 seat.
FAQ
How much does Sprout Social cost for one indie founder?
On 26 October 2026 the cheapest published seat is Essentials at $79 per month if you pay annually, which is $948 upfront for the year, or $99 per month if you pay month to month. That seat includes five social profiles, optimal send times, profile- and post-level reporting, and 100 Trellis credits. It does not include the consolidated inbox. Standard, the first plan with the inbox and review management, is $199 per seat per month on annual billing ($2,388 upfront) or $249 month to month. A second user is a second seat.
Is there a free Sprout Social plan?
No. The public offer is a 30-day trial with no credit card. When the trial ends, Sprout asks you to pick a plan and enter payment. You can change plans during the trial.
Does Sprout post to a personal LinkedIn profile?
Yes. Sprout’s help says you can publish to a personal LinkedIn profile from Compose, see those posts on the publishing calendar, and use Sprout Queue or a specific time, including Optimal Send Times. The personal profile counts toward the profile allotment. A company Page is a separate profile and needs a super admin to connect. Sprout does not connect LinkedIn groups or university personal profiles, and it does not support boosting a personal profile post.
Can Sprout design a LinkedIn carousel?
Sprout publishes a PDF you already made, as a LinkedIn document post, up to 100 MB and 300 pages. It does not build the slides from a brand kit. Polls, LinkedIn live, and event posts are created in LinkedIn. Boykli builds the carousel PDF on the carousel page. It does not schedule that file to other networks, and it does not accept an arbitrary 300-page report as the post.
Does Boykli replace Sprout’s Smart Inbox?
No. Boykli does not collect comments, Page messages, or reviews. If the purchase is customer care, stay on Sprout Standard or above. Personal-profile direct messages are already listed as unavailable in Sprout’s LinkedIn message table, so that particular gap is shared.
How do Trellis credits work?
Every seat includes 100 Trellis credits a month, and the allowance resets. Sprout says a narrow prompt uses few credits and a broad, multi-source question uses more. Trellis Plus is $28 per user per month on annual billing and $35 per user per month on monthly billing. Enhance Post by AI Assist is a Professional feature. Enhance Reply is Advanced. Those are separate from the decision to bring your own model key. On Boykli, Managed uses platform models inside the monthly caps. BYOK uses your OpenRouter key for chat and images and your Google AI Studio key for Voice Agent, with no Boykli generation cap.
Is Boykli cheaper than Sprout Essentials?
The sticker is lower on BYOK ($29/month) and close on Managed ($88/month versus Essentials at $79 annual or $99 month-to-month). The cheaper sticker is only a saving if you do not still need Sprout’s other profiles, reporting, or inbox. A founder who cancels Essentials and then buys another scheduler for Instagram has not saved the $79. A founder whose only publishing surface is a personal LinkedIn profile, and whose bottleneck is the draft, is paying Sprout for profiles they are not using.
What if I also need a company Page?
Keep the Page where a super admin can publish as the organization. That can be Sprout, another Page tool, or LinkedIn’s own Page calendar. Boykli’s queue publishes as the member who connected LinkedIn. Mixing the two authors in one tool is how a launch post goes out under a face, or a personal essay goes out under a logo. The permission difference is written up in LinkedIn personal profile scheduler.
Write the post, then queue it
Boykli is the personal-profile path: a draft from your own material, a carousel PDF, and a schedule. BYOK is $29/month. Managed is $88/month.
