How to turn Notion documents into LinkedIn PDF carousels
A Notion document is a page of blocks: headings, toggles, callouts, databases, and images that only exist inside a workspace. A LinkedIn carousel is a PDF. LinkedIn paginates that PDF, and each page is a slide someone swipes. Turning the Notion page into the carousel means exporting one page, keeping one lesson that is safe to say in public, and designing a new PDF of 2 to 8 pages. Pasting a notion.so link into the LinkedIn composer shows a link preview. It does not swipe the wiki.
Boykli does not connect to Notion. There is no workspace login and no block import. On Create posts, Document mode reads a text PDF, a Word file, or a Markdown file and writes one LinkedIn post from a single lesson. The carousel page does not take the file. You paste an outline of that lesson into the topic box, up to 2,000 characters, and it designs a new PDF: square or portrait, with a document title and a caption. You download that PDF or publish it on the personal profile you connect. The generic file path is PDF to LinkedIn carousel. Pitch decks and whitepapers, which fail for different reasons, are convert a document to LinkedIn slides. This page is the Notion path, because the export format decides whether any words survive.
What has to be decided before the export
A Notion page is usually the wrong shape for a swipe. A product spec has a status callout, six toggles, a linked database of decisions, and screenshots of the UI. A carousel has a cover, a few claims, and a close. Someone has to throw most of the page away. The tool cannot see the workspace, so the cut happens in the file you upload and in the outline you paste.
Four decisions sit in front of the layout:
- Which page is the source. One page, one export. A workspace dump is a backup, not a brief. Nested pages are other documents.
- Which lesson is public. Internal links, customer names, unreleased dates, and a database of incidents stay in the workspace. A LinkedIn slide is a document anyone can download.
- Which lesson is the deck. One PDF, one point. The rollout steps and the pricing change are two creates.
- How many pages the new PDF should have. The carousel form stops at 8. A cover, the steps, and a close often fit in 5 to 7. LinkedIn will paginate up to 300 pages. A 300-page swipe is the Notion printout with a new filename.
The cut stays with the person whose name is on the post. The longer version of that choice is building Boykli.
Four ways people turn a Notion page into slides
| Method | What you export from Notion | What LinkedIn receives | Where it breaks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Share the Notion link, or paste the URL into the composer | Nothing. The page stays in the workspace | A link preview, if the page is public | Guests and strangers do not swipe blocks. A private page does not even preview |
| Export PDF and upload that file as a LinkedIn document | A paper-size PDF of the page, including toggles, database chrome, and empty space | The same pages, paginated | Letter or A4 type is small on a phone. There is no cover written for a stranger. Include subpages, on Business and Enterprise, is a zip of many PDFs |
| Rebuild the page in a template tool | A copy you retype, or screenshots you restack | A new PDF or a set of images, depending on the tool | Slow. Notion screenshots do not become editable type. The Canva export path is this job when the layout is the point |
| Boykli Document mode, then the carousel page | One .md from Markdown and CSV, or one text PDF | A new PDF, 2–8 slides, plus a caption | The Notion page is not the slides. A zip, an HTML export, and a database CSV are refused. The outline you paste is the only brief the slides see |
The last row is the workflow below. The second row is what happens when "we already wrote it in Notion" is treated as "LinkedIn already has slides."
Turn the Notion page into a deck
Export Markdown or a text PDF. Document mode pulls one lesson. The carousel page designs the PDF. BYOK is $29/month. Managed is $88/month.
boykli.com →Which Notion export the file reader can open
Notion's page menu is the ••• at the upper right, then Export. The format list is PDF, HTML, and Markdown and CSV. That dialog is documented on Notion's export help. Boykli's Document mode accepts .pdf, .docx, and .md only. The upload must be 7 MB or smaller. After parsing, the text must be 80,000 characters or fewer, and it must contain at least 80 non-whitespace characters. Below that, the API refuses the file. There is no OCR step.
Use this map before you click Export:
| Notion output | What the file actually is | Upload it to Document mode? |
|---|---|---|
| Markdown and CSV, one non-database page, no images | A zip that contains one .md. Open the zip and upload that Markdown file | Yes, the .md |
| Markdown and CSV, with images or subpages | A zip of Markdown files plus asset folders. Each nested page is its own file | Yes, one .md per lesson. The zip itself is refused |
| Full-page database | A CSV, plus a Markdown file for each subpage | The CSV is refused. A subpage .md is fine if that page holds the lesson |
| PDF of the current page | One PDF at the paper size and scale you picked. Include content can keep or drop files and images | Yes, if you can search the PDF and find a sentence you know is on the page |
| PDF with Include subpages | Business and Enterprise only. A zip of one PDF per nested page, emailed when the export is large | Yes, one PDF per lesson. The zip is refused |
| HTML, including a PDF export that Notion fell back to HTML | A zip of HTML, and comments if you included them | No. Save the words as Markdown or export PDF again |
| Browser print, Save as PDF | A PDF of what the browser painted. Notion says a full-page database cannot be printed this way. The desktop app has no print command | Only if the PDF has a text layer and stays under 7 MB |
| Settings, Workspace, General, Export all workspace content | HTML, Markdown, or CSV for the whole workspace. The email link expires after 7 days and the job can take up to 30 hours | No. Pick the one page from that archive later, if you must, and upload that single file |
A few Notion-specific traps sit inside a file that otherwise looks valid.
Callout blocks have no Markdown equivalent. Notion writes them as HTML inside the .md. Open the file and confirm the sentence is still there before you upload. The reader keeps the string, tags included. A number that lives only in that callout is still usable if you can see it in the file.
Toggles often export closed content as headings and paragraphs. A toggle that was never filled exports as a heading with nothing under it. Do not treat an empty heading as a slide.
Databases, synced blocks, and linked views do not become a clean outline. A linked database may export as a title and almost no rows, because the rows live on another page. If the lesson is a row, open that row's page and export the page.
Screenshots, custom emojis, and cover images do not become pictures on the later carousel. Notion's own PDF note says custom emojis do not appear in PDF exports. Boykli slides are HTML and CSS: type, shapes, gradients, and SVG. If a figure matters, write the claim it supports into the topic, in words, and only if that claim is in the extract.
A public notion.site URL is the wrong door. Create posts has an Article mode for a public HTML page, and that mode needs at least 200 non-whitespace characters in the fetched HTML. Notion paints the page in the browser, so the fetch often lands under that floor. The walkthrough for a normal blog URL is article to LinkedIn carousel. For a wiki, export the page.
Guests need Full access on the page before Export appears. On an Enterprise workspace, an owner can turn export off under Settings, Security. If the menu has no Export, the block is in Notion, not in Boykli.
A worked teardown
Source: a Notion page titled "How we cut deploy time," written as an internal note. The top is a callout: median deploy went from 18 minutes to 4. Under that are five toggles (queue, cache, who can press the button, the freeze window, what we still measure). A linked database lists the last twelve failed deploys, with customer names in the title property. Three screenshots show the old pipeline.
A raw PDF of that page, uploaded to LinkedIn, swipes through the database and the customer names. That is a failed carousel that still "converted."
Pass 1, export:
•••, then Export. Format: Markdown and CSV. Include subpages off. You want this page, not the twelve incident pages.- Unzip. Upload the single
.md. If the callout sentence is missing when you open the file, export PDF instead, with Include content set to exclude files and images so the screenshots do not bloat the file, and search the PDF for "18 minutes." - Do not upload the CSV of the incident database. Those rows are not the lesson, and several of them are not public.
Pass 2, on Create posts:
- Document mode. Upload the
.mdor the text PDF. - Brief: "Only the change from 18 minutes to 4. Keep both numbers. Skip the incident database and any customer name."
- Tone: Step-by-Step, because the useful shape is the sequence of the change.
- Write. The post is 700 to 1,400 characters. It does not say "the document" or "this page." It does not add hashtags, emoji, or a statistic that was not in the extract. Read it. If 18 minutes became "much faster," the brief was too loose. Fix the brief and refine, or write again. Two refinements are the limit on that draft.
- The accepted lesson is one paragraph you would say in a meeting: what changed, the two numbers, the order of the steps. That paragraph is the only material the slides are allowed to know.
Pass 3, on the carousel page:
- Paste an outline, not the Notion page and not the whole post. A topic that works: "Cover: median deploy went from 18 minutes to 4. Slide 2: the queue rule we removed. Slide 3: the cache we stopped clearing. Slide 4: who can press the button. Slide 5: the freeze window. Close: the one rule to copy. Do not add customer names or other numbers."
- Tone: Normal. Humor would treat an internal incident note as a joke.
- Slide count: 6, matching the outline. Default is 5. The form allows 2 through 8.
- Shape: Portrait, 1080 by 1350, because each step is two short lines plus a label. Square is 1080 by 1080 when the line is a card. Notion's paper size is irrelevant here. The new PDF is the LinkedIn file. Dimensions and the 220px safe zone are in LinkedIn carousel dimensions.
- Design: Infographic / Data Guide for a sequence of steps. Neo-Brutalist is the default when you want the deck to look less like a wiki printout. If brand-kit colors are on, the only design available is Normal. The other seven stay disabled until brand colors are off. The kit is canvas, accent, logo, photo, and handle, saved on the carousel page. That setup is LinkedIn brand kit.
- Model: Grok 4.6 is the default. The picker also offers Gemini 3.5 Flash, Claude Sonnet 5, and GPT-5.6 Terra. Document mode writes with the post model. The deck uses the carousel model.
- Create. A large deck can take a few minutes. The page stops the attempt at about eight minutes.
- Read every slide against the Notion page. A third number, or a customer name from the database, is a failed deck. Change the topic and create again. That is a new carousel generation. There is no per-box editor.
- Set the document title, up to 120 characters. LinkedIn shows it as the name of the PDF. The caption is separate, up to 3,000 characters, and it is the commentary in the feed. The title is required when you add the PDF to the queue.
- Download the PDF, post it now, or queue it. Publishing uses the personal profile from LinkedIn OAuth. Company pages are outside the product. How the queue takes the next open slot for a document is in How to schedule a PDF on LinkedIn.
The file you publish as the carousel is the new PDF. The Notion page stays in Notion. The text post, if you saved it, stays in the library as its own record. They do not merge.
How many slides the page can support
| What survived the export | Slide count that fits | Topic you paste | Design that usually holds it |
|---|---|---|---|
| One callout, two numbers, no steps | 2–3 | The contrast and both numbers, labeled as cover and close | Bold and Edgy, or Neo-Brutalist |
| A sequence of 3 or 4 toggles that actually contain steps | 5–6 | Cover, one action per slide, close | Infographic / Data Guide |
| A framework with named headings | 5–7 | The name of each part, in order, plus what each part is for | Bauhaus or Split-Screen |
| A list of mistakes, each with a fix, in the prose | 7–8 | One mistake per slide. The close is the rule, not a new mistake | Neo-Brutalist |
| A wiki with several arguments, or a database of many rows | Do not pick 8 and hope | Export once per page. Each accepted lesson is its own topic | Whichever fits that lesson |
| The page is already a designed slide export someone pasted in | 0 in this tool | Publish the PDF you already have | — |
Eight is a ceiling, not a goal. Density on a slide is also capped in the prompt: about five bullets or four cards, body type at 21px or larger on the square canvas. A topic that says "put the whole toggle list on slide 3" produces a cramped slide or a dropped line. Split the list across slides in the outline.
Series mode on Create posts writes several text posts from source text you paste. It does not emit several carousel PDFs. One deck is one create. The map of topic, idea, and file starts is LinkedIn carousel generator.
The order of operations
- Pick one Notion page. If Export is missing, you are a guest without Full access, or the workspace has disabled export.
- Export Markdown and CSV with subpages off, unless the lesson is a nested page. Unzip and keep the one
.md. If the lesson is only visible in the PDF text layer, export PDF and exclude images. - Confirm the file is under 7 MB and that a search finds the sentence you care about. Delete a database dump you do not want before upload. That is cleaner than hoping the brief ignores customer names.
- On Create posts, choose Document. Upload
.mdor.pdf. A.docxworks too if you pasted the Notion text into Word, which is a fair fallback when the Markdown zip is a mess of HTML callouts. - Write the brief as a cut. Name the section, the claim, and the numbers to keep. Name what must not appear.
- Pick the document tone. Step-by-Step for a procedure. Analytical when the point is the comparison on the page. Teach and Explain for a framework. Thought Leader when the point is the implication, still using only what the page supports.
- Read the post. Refine at most twice. If the lesson is wrong, the slides will be a polished version of the wrong lesson.
- Rewrite the lesson as a slide outline in the carousel topic. Name the cover and the close. Stay inside 2,000 characters. Do not paste the wiki.
- Set Normal or Humor, ratio, design, model, and slide count. Save the brand kit first if you changed canvas, accent, logo, photo, or handle. An unsaved kit blocks create. Author strip and logo are toggles. The generator does not invent a handle.
- Create, then read the slides against the Notion page. Download or publish only after that read.
- Title, caption, then the personal profile: post now or add to the queue. If you also want the text post live, publish that separately. The caption can point at a public write-up. The slides still have to stand alone, because many people swipe and never open the link.
Managed includes 210 posts and 150 carousels in the month, plus 150 images, 25 Voice Agent sessions, and 130 post refinements. The document post counts as a post. The carousel create counts as a carousel. Downloading the same PDF again does not. BYOK is the same screens with your OpenRouter key for chat and images and your Google AI Studio key for Voice Agent, and Boykli does not add a generation cap on that seat. You still pay those providers. Both seats are $29 and $88 a month on boykli.com. A paid seat is required before the app will write, create a carousel, publish, or schedule. Browsing Radar and Algorithm is open without one.
FAQ
Can I connect Notion, or paste a Notion URL on the carousel page?
No connection, and the carousel page takes a topic of up to 2,000 characters. The Notion URL does not become slides. Export the page, run Document mode, and paste an outline. The PDF you download afterward is a new slide deck. That deck is what LinkedIn publishes as the document post.
Why did my export fail before any post existed?
The usual causes are a zip, an HTML file, or a CSV uploaded as if it were the page; a PDF over 7 MB; extracted text over 80,000 characters; or a file with fewer than 80 readable characters. Notion sometimes falls back from PDF to HTML when a PDF export fails. That HTML zip is not a Document mode file. Export Markdown, or export PDF again, and upload the single inner file.
Will Notion screenshots, icons, and database views show up on the slides?
No. Extraction is text. Slides do not place the page's images. A linked database often contributes a title and little else. If a figure or a row matters, write the claim in words in the topic, and only if that claim is in the file you uploaded.
The page is a 40-toggle wiki. Can one carousel hold it?
No. One PDF is one lesson. Export the page, name the one toggle sequence in the brief, and design that deck. A second sequence is a second create. Series mode writes multiple text posts and does not build the PDFs.
Include subpages gave me a zip of twelve PDFs. Which file is the carousel?
None of them, until you choose. Each PDF is a nested Notion page printed at paper size. Pick the page that holds one public lesson, upload that file, and design a new 2–8 slide PDF. Uploading the zip fails. Uploading all twelve to LinkedIn publishes twelve paper printouts.
How do I change a sentence on slide 4?
Edit the document title and the caption in place. Slide copy is part of the generated design. Change the topic and create again. That new create counts toward the Managed carousel cap, or toward your provider usage on BYOK.
What do I pay to run this?
The seat is $29 a month on BYOK or $88 a month on Managed. Managed includes 150 carousel generations and 210 posts in the month. BYOK has no Boykli monthly cap. The document write and the carousel create are both gated by the seat. Notion's own plan only matters for export options such as Include subpages on PDF, which Notion documents as Business and Enterprise.
Can I queue the new PDF?
Yes, on the personal profile you connect. The queue asks for a document title. You set the days, the time of day, and the timezone. The next item takes the next open slot. It does not post as a company page, and it does not update the Notion page.
Start from the Notion page
One lesson from the export, then a 2–8 slide document post on your personal LinkedIn profile. BYOK $29/month. Managed $88/month.
