Voice memo to a polished LinkedIn post, step by step

A voice memo is a monologue you recorded while walking. A polished LinkedIn post is a short piece of writing with one scene, one claim, and line breaks a phone feed can show before "see more." The work between them is cutting. Transcription only changes the container.

Boykli does not accept the audio file. Create posts will not take an m4a, an mp3, or a Voice Memos export. Voice Agent will not import that recording either. It runs a new live interview and transcribes that conversation while you talk. The product page for the interview, including the 0.6 second turn, the three formats, and the replay, is Voice Agent. This page is the handoff from a memo you already have.

Two seats can run the steps below. BYOK is $29 a month. Managed is $88 a month. Prices are the public ones on boykli.com. Logged-in visitors can browse Radar and Algorithm without a plan. Writing, Voice Agent, publishing, and scheduling need a paid seat.

Four ways a memo becomes a post

MethodWhat you hand the writerWhat comes backWhere it breaks
Transcribe in a general chat and ask for "a LinkedIn post"The whole monologue, plus whatever the chat infersOne reply, in whatever shape that chat felt likeInvented numbers, a second topic you muttered, and a closer you would not say. You still paste it into LinkedIn yourself
Clean the memo, then paste a core idea on Create postsOne situation: who, when, the number, the claim. At least 10 characters, and in practice a paragraph you would defendOne draft. Short, medium, or long, in a tone you pick. Written with Grok 4.6A paste of the raw transcript. The writer keeps your nouns, so the hedges and the side topics survive into the draft
Save the transcript as PDF, DOCX, or MD and use Document modeThe file, up to 7 MB and 80,000 characters, plus an optional brief that says which point to useOne post, aimed at 700–1,400 characters, from a single idea in the fileAn audio file. The uploader accepts only those three types. An empty brief lets the model pick the "most compelling" line, which may be the aside
Re-speak the useful part in Voice AgentA new 3–5 minute interview. The agent asks for the example and the opinion the memo skippedThree drafts: Storytelling, Educational, Opinion. Each is asked for 150–350 words, from that transcript onlyTreating it as an upload. The phone file never enters the session. A thin answer still produces a thin post

The second row is the default when the memo already contains the scene. The third row is for a transcript too long to trust as a core idea. The fourth row is for a memo that never landed the number or the opinion. The first row is the one that publishes sentences you did not say.

Turn the cleaned note into a draft

Create posts writes from the idea you paste. Voice Agent writes from a live interview. BYOK is $29/month. Managed is $88/month.

What to strip before any of those tools see it

Play the memo once. Do not paste it yet. Write four lines on paper, or in a note, using only words you hear yourself say:

  1. The day or the timeframe.
  2. The proper nouns: a person, a price, a tool, a customer count.
  3. The claim, in one sentence, including the thing you think the other person got wrong.
  4. The topics that are a different post. Mark them and leave them out.

Spoken waste has a shape. "Anyway," "kind of," "I think we should," and a restart halfway through a sentence are not voice. They are the recorder staying on while you decided. A polished post keeps the noun and drops the restart.

A four-minute memo usually holds two posts and one apology. Publishing both topics in one draft is how the first line becomes vague. The post generator is told to keep your nouns and to skip stats, studies, quotes, and anecdotes that are not in the source. That rule helps only after you have removed the nouns that belong to next week.

Here is a worked memo, labeled as an example, not as a Boykli incident. The recording says:

Okay so Tuesday, we moved the starter plan from forty-nine to twenty-nine. Three customers emailed that the cheaper plan must be worse software. It is the same product. They pay the model provider on that plan. Also I should talk about the deck builder. Maybe later. Sorry this is rambly.

The cleaned core idea is:

On Tuesday we moved the starter plan from $49 to $29. Three customers emailed that the cheaper plan must be worse software. It is the same product. On that plan they pay the model provider. The deck builder is a different post.

The deck-builder sentence stays in the note so you remember to cut it from the draft. It does not stay in the idea you submit, unless you want the post to change subject in the last paragraph.

Step by step, from the cleaned note to the queue

Do this on a paid seat. The button is not the gate. A missing plan returns an error from the API.

  1. Sign in on boykli.com. On BYOK, save the OpenRouter key in Settings before you write. Create posts calls that key. Managed uses the platform route and does not ask for it. Google AI Studio is not required for this path. It is required when you switch to Voice Agent on a BYOK seat.
  2. Open Create posts and pick the length from the cleaned note, not from how long the recording was. A 90-second memo can be a short post. A 12-minute memo can still be a short post if only one sentence survived the cut.
  3. Match the mode to the material you kept:
    • Short, when the whole point fits in two paragraphs. The writer is asked for about 30 to 75 words. The page label says 45–400 characters. Tones: Viral Hook, Hot Take, Conversational, Thought Leader, Motivational, Humor. This mode has no hook switch and no CTA switch. The first line is still required to be the hook, and engagement bait is banned in the prompt.
    • Medium, when you have a scene or a short sequence. About 100 to 250 words, five paragraphs at most. The page label says 400–1,400 characters. The prompt aims nearer 500–1,300. Tones: Thought Leader, Personal Story, Teach & Explain, Step-by-Step, Conversational, Humor. Hooks and a CTA are switches on this mode.
    • Long, when the cleaned note actually supports 250 to 500 words. Eight paragraphs at most. The page label says 1,400–3,000 characters. Tones: Thought Leader, Analytical, Teach & Explain, Personal Story. Humor is not on this mode. A long recording is not a reason to open Long. Empty length becomes generic advice.
  4. Paste the cleaned idea. Under ten characters, the page stops you and asks for more context. Ten characters is a floor. "Pricing changed" will come back generic because the prompt is told to keep your nouns, and those two words do not contain the Tuesday, the two prices, or the three emails.
  5. Set the tone before you write. Personal Story if the memo is a scene. Step-by-Step if you described a sequence someone could follow. Teach & Explain if you described a mechanism. Hot Take only on Short, and only if the memo already challenges a belief. Humor only if the joke is already in the words you kept. A tone cannot supply a point of view the memo never reached.
  6. On Medium or Long, decide the hook. Off, the post opens on its own. On, you get one to five variations, default three. If you type the opening you already said out loud, every variation has to use that angle. Selecting one replaces the first line. Leave the CTA off unless the memo named a real next step: a doc, an office hour, a page. "Follow for more" is on the banned list unless your CTA line asks for it. Filled last lines for a priced page, a timestamp, or a reply that has to include a number are on LinkedIn call to action examples. Those lines stay on that page. Create posts still has one optional box, not a stored pack.
  7. Write. The model on Create posts is Grok 4.6. There is no model picker on this page. Managed Grok calls can use web search. BYOK sends the same family through OpenRouter with the web plugin. The draft is still not allowed to import a study you did not say. If a citation or a round number appears that is not in the cleaned idea, cut it.
  8. Spend refinements on a specific edit. "Cut the deck-builder sentence" is a refinement. "Make it sound more like me" spends one of the two passes on a guess, because there is no stored profile of you. Each draft allows two refinements. A third pass is a new write. Managed also caps refinements at 130 in the month. BYOK has no Boykli cap. You pay OpenRouter for the calls.
  9. Read the draft against the memo, out loud. The first line must not start with "I". Every proper noun must match what you said. The hedges ("kind of," "sorry this is rambly") must be gone. If the draft teaches a framework you did not describe, delete the framework.
  10. Check the opening the way a phone feed will clamp it. Boykli does not draw the LinkedIn feed. The practical test, including why a blank line burns a row, is on LinkedIn post preview. Then publish or queue from the personal profile you connect with LinkedIn OAuth. Company pages are not a destination. The queue uses the weekdays, the one time of day, and the timezone you saved. How that queue behaves is in schedule LinkedIn posts.

The reason the draft has to start from your sentence, rather than from a topic label, is the scope in building Boykli. You read the text before it leaves.

When the transcript is a file

Document mode is the path for a transcript you already exported from another recorder, after you have deleted the second topic. A Loom share page is the same class of source: copy the transcript, cut one scene, and leave the player URL out. That walk is Loom transcript to a LinkedIn post. The control says "Drag and drop a PDF, DOCX, or MD." The server rejects anything else, including audio. Limits on that upload:

  • File size at most 7 MB.
  • Extracted text at most 80,000 characters. Over that, the API returns "max 80k characters in document allowed."
  • At least 80 non-whitespace characters. A scanned PDF with no text layer fails with a message to use a text-based PDF, DOCX, or MD.

Save the cleaned transcript as notes.md if you can. A text file extracts exactly what you typed. A designed PDF can extract in a scrambled order, and the writer will treat that order as the argument.

The optional brief on that panel is real. The document prompt uses it. If you type "the price change and the three emails, not the deck builder," the writer is told to prioritize that direction. If you leave the brief empty, the prompt tells the model to pick the single most compelling insight in the file. On a raw memo, that pick is often the aside, because asides sound more dramatic than the decision.

The post is one idea. The prompt forbids a full summary and forbids the phrases "the document" and "this report." Length target is 700–1,400 characters. Tones are Teach & Explain, Analytical, Step-by-Step, and Thought Leader. Personal Story is not on Document mode. If the memo is a scene and you want that tone, use Medium and the cleaned idea instead of the file. Hooks and a CTA exist on this mode, with the same on/off behavior as Medium. Two refinements. The draft counts as a post.

A 40-minute transcript pasted whole, under the 80,000-character cap, still fails the editorial test. The writer will amplify one idea and drop the rest without telling you which minutes it ignored. Trim the file to the story you are willing to sign, then upload that.

When the memo is too thin to polish

Some recordings never say the number. "We rethought pricing and people were confused" cannot be polished into Tuesday, $49, $29, and three emails. The writer is instructed to omit a statistic it does not have. That omission is the correct result. Inventing the count in a chat is how a post becomes a story you have to walk back.

Voice Agent is the replacement recording, not a cleanup of the file. Open Voice Agent, press Start Your Session, and answer with the facts you already know plus the one the memo skipped. The interviewer is told to ask for a specific week, a name, or a number, and to keep going until it has a story and an opinion. Sessions usually run 3–5 minutes. You can press Stop Session earlier. A saved session is what counts on Managed.

When it ends, the page saves the live transcript and the audio, then writes three posts from the transcript only. It does not re-listen to your phone memo. It does not re-listen to its own recording to fix a bad proper noun. If the live transcript missed a name, fix the draft in Library, on the Voice tab, before you publish.

Use the three cards as a filter, not as a bundle you must post:

  • Storytelling may go out only if it contains the scene you described.
  • Educational may go out only if it lists steps you actually said.
  • Opinion may go out only if the claim is the one you made, not a hotter version of a hedge.

Post Now and Schedule on the card send the text on the card. An edit in Library is the copy you publish from Library. Adding an image on the card is a separate image generation. The three drafts themselves do not draw the 210-post allowance. The saved interview is the metered unit on Managed, toward 25 sessions in the period.

There is no paste box that turns an Otter export into those three formats. Drafting reads the transcript stored for that Boykli session. A body over 200 turns or 50,000 characters is refused. If you wanted the three formats, record the interview. If you wanted one post from the memo you already have, stay on Create posts.

A cancelled seat keeps access until the period end that is still in the future. An on-hold seat, and a cancel whose period has already ended, do not. AppSumo lifetime BYOK is a code at boykli.com/redeem. One code, one account. It is a BYOK seat, so the interview still needs your Google key and the drafts still need OpenRouter. An existing paid seat blocks redeem.

Free-tier Google keys are a common failure on the interview path. Live audio streams the whole time. The in-product note says to stay on one Live tab. A 429 during the session is a Google limit. The cleaned-idea path does not hit that limit, because it never opens the live socket.

FAQ

Can I upload the voice memo into Boykli?

No. Create posts Document mode accepts a PDF, a DOCX, or an MD file, up to 7 MB. Voice Agent records its own session as WebM or M4A after you talk to the interviewer. A file from your phone is neither of those inputs. Transcribe it elsewhere, cut it down, and paste the cleaned idea, or upload the transcript as one of the three document types.

Will the draft sound like the way I talk?

It will contain the nouns you kept. It will not copy your pauses, and it will not learn a style from old LinkedIn posts. There is no settings page called "my voice." The distinction between a stored ghostwriter and a single transcript is AI LinkedIn ghostwriter. If your spoken habit is three emoji and a row of hashtags, the post prompts ban both. Add them yourself in Library if you want them on the published copy. The next draft will not inherit the addition.

Which mode should a two-minute memo use?

Whichever matches the cleaned note. Two minutes of one scene is usually Medium, Personal Story, with the hook switch on only if you want variations of the line you already said. Two minutes that are one claim and nothing else are Short. Two minutes that wander across three topics are not Long. Split them, or re-record the one topic in Voice Agent.

Does a long memo become a carousel automatically?

No. Slides are a separate create on the carousel page, from an outline you paste. The memo's audio does not become pages. If you want both a text post and a document post, run the cleaned idea through Create posts, then type a 2–8 slide outline yourself. Publish them as two LinkedIn objects. The text post is not the caption of the PDF unless you paste it there.

Do I need both keys to polish a memo?

For the cleaned-idea path and for Document mode, BYOK needs OpenRouter only. Google AI Studio enters when you start Voice Agent, and when a YouTube video without captions has to be watched. That second case is a different workflow. Managed needs neither key. Both seats publish only to the personal profile you connect.

What if the transcript misheard a name?

On Create posts, the source is the text you pasted, so fix the name in the idea and write again, or fix the draft before you queue. On Voice Agent, drafting does not re-listen to the audio. Open the replay, catch the bad noun, and edit the Library copy on the Voice tab. Spell an unusual name once, slowly, if you run the interview again. The posts will inherit the transcript either way.

Polish the memo you already recorded

Paste the cleaned idea on Create posts, or run a new Voice Agent session when the recording never landed the fact. The phone audio stays on your phone.
