How to convert Google Docs into LinkedIn slide decks

A Google Doc is a live page: headings, comments, suggestions, tabs, and images that only exist inside Drive. A LinkedIn slide deck is a PDF. LinkedIn paginates that PDF, and each page is a slide someone swipes. Converting the Doc means downloading one tab, keeping one lesson that is safe to say in public, and designing a new PDF of 2 to 8 pages. Pasting the docs.google.com link into the LinkedIn composer shows a link preview, when the Doc is public. It does not swipe the document.

Boykli does not connect to Google Drive. There is no Docs login and no "import this URL" on the carousel page. On Create posts, Document mode reads a text PDF, a Word file, or a Markdown file and writes one LinkedIn post from a single lesson. The carousel page does not take the file. You paste an outline of that lesson into the topic box, up to 2,000 characters, and it designs a new PDF: square or portrait, with a document title and a caption. You download that PDF or publish it on the personal profile you connect. The generic file path is PDF to LinkedIn carousel. A pitch deck that lives in Google Slides fails for different reasons, which is convert a document to LinkedIn slides. A Notion page is the same two-pass job with a different export menu: Notion to a LinkedIn PDF carousel. This page is the Google Doc.

What has to be decided before File, Download

A Doc written for a team is the wrong shape for a swipe. A spec has an overview tab, a checklist, a legal tab, a thread of comments, and screenshots. A carousel has a cover, a few claims, and a close. Someone has to throw most of the Doc away. The tool cannot see Drive, so the cut happens in the file you upload and in the outline you paste.

Four decisions sit in front of the layout:

  1. Which tab is the source. Google's tabs help says a download or a print must choose the current tab or all tabs. The dialog defaults to Current Tab. All Tabs is the whole Doc in one file, including the tab you would not post.
  2. Which lesson is public. Customer names in a comment, an unreleased date in a suggestion, and a legal tab stay in the Doc. A LinkedIn slide is a document anyone can download.
  3. Which lesson is the deck. One PDF, one point. The checklist and the pricing change are two creates.
  4. How many pages the new PDF should have. The carousel form stops at 8. A cover, the steps, and a close often fit in 5 to 7. LinkedIn will paginate up to 300 pages. A 300-page swipe is the Doc printout with a new filename.

The cut stays with the person whose name is on the post. The longer version of that choice is building Boykli.

Four ways people turn a Google Doc into slides

MethodWhat you take out of DocsWhat LinkedIn receivesWhere it breaks
Share the Doc link, or paste the URL into the composerNothing. The page stays in DriveA link preview, if viewers can open itStrangers do not swipe a Doc. A restricted file does not even preview. Pasting the body into the composer is a flat text post: LinkedIn has no bold button, which is the formatting limit
File, Download, PDF, then upload that file as a LinkedIn documentA paper-size PDF of the tab you chose, including headings, tables, and empty spaceThe same pages, paginatedLetter or A4 type is small on a phone. There is no cover written for a stranger. All Tabs ships the legal tab with the checklist
Rebuild the Doc in a template toolA copy you retype, or screenshots you restackA new PDF or a set of images, depending on the toolSlow. A Docs screenshot does not become editable type. The Canva export path is this job when the layout is the point
Boykli Document mode, then the carousel pageOne .docx, one text PDF, or one .md of the tab that holds the lessonA new PDF, 2–8 slides, plus a captionThe Doc is not the slides. .txt, .rtf, .odt, .epub, HTML, and a zip are refused. The outline you paste is the only brief the slides see

The last row is the workflow below. The second row is what happens when "we already wrote it in Docs" is treated as "LinkedIn already has slides."

Turn the Google Doc into a deck

Download one tab as Word, PDF, or Markdown. Document mode pulls one lesson. The carousel page designs the PDF. BYOK is $29/month. Managed is $88/month.

Which Docs download the file reader can open

On a computer, the menu is File, then Download, then a file type. Google's download help is that path. The Drive API lists the export types for a Doc: Word (.docx), OpenDocument (.odt), rich text (.rtf), PDF, plain text (.txt), HTML, zipped HTML, EPUB, and Markdown (.md). That list is on Google's export-format reference. Boykli's Document mode accepts .pdf, .docx, and .md only. The upload must be 7 MB or smaller. After parsing, the text must be 80,000 characters or fewer, and it must contain at least 80 non-whitespace characters. Below that, the API refuses the file. There is no OCR step.

Use this map before you click Download:

Docs outputWhat the file actually isUpload it to Document mode?
Microsoft Word (.docx), Current TabThe body of that tab as Word. Comments can ride along as Word commentsYes. The reader keeps body text. A comment bubble is not the lesson
PDF, Current TabA text PDF of that tab, paper size, with a real text layerYes, if you can search the PDF and find a sentence you know is on the tab
PDF or Word, All TabsEvery tab, in the order of the tabs panel, in one fileOnly if every tab is public and the extract stays under 80,000 characters. Otherwise download the one tab
Markdown (.md)The tab as Markdown. Headings become heading linesYes. This is the cleanest file when the Doc is prose
Plain text (.txt), rich text (.rtf), OpenDocument (.odt), EPUBOther export types from the same menuNo. Save as .docx, .pdf, or .md
Web page, or zipped HTMLHTML, often a zipNo. The zip is refused, and so is .html
File, Print, Save as PDFA PDF of what the print dialog paints. Google recommends this for a large Doc in ChromeYes, if the PDF has a text layer, stays under 7 MB, and you chose the right tab
Drive, right-click, Download on the DocDrive picks an export. You did not see the tab dialogOpen the Doc and use File, Download, so the type and the tab are explicit
Publish to the webA public HTML URL, not a fileThat URL is Article mode, a different path. It is not a slide deck
A Google Sheet or a Google Slides file.xlsx or .pptx if you download thoseNo. A Sheet is the wrong source. A Slides file is the pitch-deck path

A few Docs-specific traps sit inside a file that otherwise looks valid.

Comments do not become the post. File, Download, PDF is the page. A reviewer who typed the only useful number inside a comment left that number out of the PDF. File, Make a copy has a checkbox, Copy comments and suggestions, and that copy is still a Doc. The .docx download can carry those comments as Word comments. The upload reader walks the document body and does not pull the comment part into the lesson. If the sentence matters, accept it into the body, or type it into the tab, and download again. Then search the file for the sentence before you upload.

Suggestions work the same way. An open suggestion is a proposed edit. The body is the text that is already accepted. Download after you accept the wording you want on LinkedIn. Do not expect Boykli to pick a side in a review thread.

Tabs are the other silent miss. The dialog defaults to Current Tab. If you were looking at Legal when you clicked PDF, the checklist never left Drive. All Tabs puts Legal, customer notes, and the checklist in one extract. The brief can name a section. It is cleaner to download the one tab.

Headers, footers, and page numbers are not the body. A metric that lives only in the header should be typed into the tab. Images, drawings, and a chart that exported as a picture do not become pictures on the later carousel. Slides are HTML and CSS: type, shapes, gradients, and SVG. A table of real text usually survives as words, in cell order, which is not always the order you read. If a figure matters, write the claim it supports into the topic, in words, and only if that claim is in the extract.

A docs.google.com/document/d/.../edit URL is the wrong door. That page is the Docs app. Create posts has an Article mode for a public HTML page, and that mode needs at least 200 non-whitespace characters in the fetched HTML. The editor shell is not the Doc. The walkthrough for a normal blog URL is article to LinkedIn carousel. For a Doc, download the tab.

If File, Download is missing, the owner turned off download, print, and copy for viewers and commenters. That block is in Drive. Boykli cannot fetch the Doc from the share link.

A worked teardown

Source: a Google Doc titled "How we cut onboarding from 11 days to 4." Tab 1 is the overview: the median went from 11 days to 4 after the team dropped the security-training gate. Tab 2 is a five-step checklist. Tab 3 is legal language. Tab 4 is customer notes, with names. A comment on the overview says a reviewer thinks the old number was 14, not 11. A suggestion rewrites the close and has not been accepted. Three images show the old checklist.

A raw PDF of All Tabs, uploaded to LinkedIn, swipes the legal language and the customer names. That is a failed carousel that still "converted."

Pass 1, download:

  1. Open the overview tab. File, Download, PDF. Leave the dialog on Current Tab. Export.
  2. Open the PDF and search for "11 days." If the search finds nothing, the number was only in a comment or an image. Type it into the tab, or accept the suggestion that contains the wording you want, and export again.
  3. If the overview is short prose and you want headings preserved as lines, File, Download, Markdown, still on that tab. Word is the third option, and it is the right one when the tab is a table of steps.
  4. Do not download All Tabs to "be safe." Legal and the customer notes are not the lesson.

Pass 2, on Create posts:

  1. Document mode. Upload the .pdf, the .md, or the .docx. Leave the call-to-action switch off. The close of this post is the lesson, not a request for a demo.
  2. Brief: "Only the change from 11 days to 4. Keep both numbers. Skip the legal tab, the customer names, and the comment that says 14."
  3. Tone: Step-by-Step, because the useful shape is the sequence of the change. Teach & Explain fits a framework. Analytical fits when the point is the two numbers and nothing else. Thought Leader fits the implication, still using only what the file supports.
  4. Write. The post is the lesson you will judge, in the range of a medium LinkedIn post. It does not say "the document" or "this Doc." It does not add hashtags, emoji, or a statistic that was not in the extract. Read it. If 11 days became "much faster," or if 14 appears from a comment you thought was ignored, the brief was too loose or the wrong file went up. Fix the brief and refine, or write again. Two refinements are the limit on that draft.
  5. The accepted lesson is one paragraph you would say in a meeting: what changed, the two numbers, the order of the steps. That paragraph is the only material the slides are allowed to know.

Pass 3, on the carousel page:

  1. Paste an outline, not the Doc and not the whole post. A topic that works: "Cover: onboarding went from 11 days to 4. Slide 2: the security-training gate we removed. Slide 3: who starts the account now. Slide 4: the step we kept. Slide 5: what we still measure. Close: the one rule to copy. Do not add customer names, the legal clause, or the number 14."
  2. Tone: Normal. Humor would treat an internal onboarding note as a joke.
  3. Slide count: 6, matching the outline. Default is 5. The form allows 2 through 8.
  4. Shape: Portrait, 1080 by 1350, because each step is two short lines plus a label. Square is 1080 by 1080 when the line is a card. The Doc's paper size is irrelevant here. The new PDF is the LinkedIn file. Dimensions and the 220px safe zone are in LinkedIn carousel dimensions.
  5. Design: Infographic / Data Guide for a sequence of steps. Neo-Brutalist is the default when you want the deck to look less like a printout. If brand-kit colors are on, the only design available is Normal. The other seven stay disabled until brand colors are off. The kit is canvas, accent, logo, photo, and handle, saved on the carousel page. That setup is LinkedIn brand kit.
  6. Model: Grok 4.6 is the default. The picker also offers Gemini 3.5 Flash, Claude Sonnet 5, and GPT-5.6 Terra. Document mode writes with the post model. The deck uses the carousel model.
  7. Create. A large deck can take a few minutes. The page stops the attempt at about eight minutes.
  8. Read every slide against the overview tab. A third number, or a customer name, is a failed deck. Change the topic and create again. That is a new carousel generation. There is no per-box editor.
  9. Set the document title, up to 120 characters. LinkedIn shows it as the name of the PDF. The caption is separate, up to 3,000 characters, and it is the commentary in the feed. The title is required when you add the PDF to the queue.
  10. Download the PDF, post it now, or queue it. Publishing uses the personal profile from LinkedIn OAuth. Company pages are outside the product. How the queue takes the next open slot for a document is in How to schedule a PDF on LinkedIn.

The file you publish as the carousel is the new PDF. The Google Doc stays in Drive. The text post, if you saved it, stays in the library as its own record. They do not merge.

Eight is a ceiling, not a goal. Density on a slide is also capped in the prompt: about five bullets or four cards, body type at 21px or larger on the square canvas. A topic that says "put the whole checklist on slide 3" produces a cramped slide or a dropped line. Split the list across slides in the outline.

Series mode on Create posts writes several text posts from source text you paste. It does not emit several carousel PDFs. One deck is one create. The map of topic, idea, and file starts is LinkedIn carousel generator.

The order of operations

  1. Pick one tab. If the Doc has only "Tab 1," that tab is the file. If Download is missing, you are a viewer and the owner disabled download.
  2. File, Download. Choose .docx, PDF, or Markdown. Leave the dialog on Current Tab unless every other tab is public and short enough to stay under 80,000 characters.
  3. Confirm the file is under 7 MB and that a search finds the sentence you care about. If the sentence is only in a comment, a suggestion, a header, or an image, put it in the body and download again.
  4. On Create posts, choose Document. Upload .pdf, .docx, or .md.
  5. Write the brief as a cut. Name the tab, the claim, and the numbers to keep. Name what must not appear, including a comment thread you do not want quoted.
  6. Pick the document tone. Step-by-Step for a procedure. Analytical when the point is the comparison on the tab. Teach & Explain for a framework. Thought Leader when the point is the implication, still using only what the tab supports.
  7. Read the post. Refine at most twice. If the lesson is wrong, the slides will be a polished version of the wrong lesson.
  8. Rewrite the lesson as a slide outline in the carousel topic. Name the cover and the close. Stay inside 2,000 characters. Do not paste the Doc.
  9. Set Normal or Humor, ratio, design, model, and slide count. Save the brand kit first if you changed canvas, accent, logo, photo, or handle. An unsaved kit blocks create. Author strip and logo are toggles. The generator does not invent a handle.
  10. Create, then read the slides against the tab. Download or publish only after that read.
  11. Title, caption, then the personal profile: post now or add to the queue. If you also want the text post live, publish that separately. The caption can point at a public write-up. The slides still have to stand alone, because many people swipe and never open the link.

Managed includes 210 posts and 150 carousels in the month, plus 150 images, 25 Voice Agent sessions, and 130 post refinements. The document post counts as a post. The carousel create counts as a carousel. Downloading the same PDF again does not. BYOK is the same screens with your OpenRouter key for chat and images and your Google AI Studio key for Voice Agent, and Boykli does not add a generation cap on that seat. You still pay those providers. Both seats are $29 and $88 a month on boykli.com. A paid seat is required before the app will write, create a carousel, publish, or schedule. Browsing Radar and Algorithm is open without one.

FAQ

Can I connect Google Drive, or paste a Docs URL on the carousel page?

No connection, and the carousel page takes a topic of up to 2,000 characters. The Docs URL does not become slides. Download the tab, run Document mode, and paste an outline. The PDF you download afterward is a new slide deck. That deck is what LinkedIn publishes as the document post.

Why did my download fail before any post existed?

The usual causes are a .txt, .rtf, .odt, .epub, HTML, or zip uploaded as if it were the Doc; a PDF over 7 MB; extracted text over 80,000 characters; or a file with fewer than 80 readable characters. A scan of a printed Doc has no text layer. Export PDF, Word, or Markdown from Docs, which writes real text, and upload that file.

Will comments, suggestions, and screenshots show up on the slides?

Comments and open suggestions stay out of the body the reader keeps. Accept the wording into the tab, or type the sentence in, and download again. Screenshots do not become pictures on the slides. If a figure matters, write the claim in words in the topic, and only if that claim is in the file you uploaded.

The Doc has six tabs. Can one carousel hold it?

No. One PDF is one lesson. Download the tab that holds that lesson, name it in the brief, and design that deck. A second tab is a second create. Series mode writes multiple text posts and does not build the PDFs. All Tabs is how the legal page and the customer notes end up in the extract.

I downloaded from Drive without opening the Doc. Which file is the carousel?

None, until you know the type and the tab. Drive's Download skips the dialog where you choose Current Tab or All Tabs. Open the Doc, download .docx, PDF, or Markdown of the one tab, and design a new 2–8 slide PDF. The original paper-size PDF is a printout, not the deck this page builds.

How do I change a sentence on slide 4?

Edit the document title and the caption in place. Slide copy is part of the generated design. Change the topic and create again. That new create counts toward the Managed carousel cap, or toward your provider usage on BYOK.

What do I pay to run this?

The seat is $29 a month on BYOK or $88 a month on Managed. Managed includes 150 carousel generations and 210 posts in the month. BYOK has no Boykli monthly cap. The document write and the carousel create are both gated by the seat. Docs itself does not charge for File, Download.

Can I queue the new PDF?

Yes, on the personal profile you connect. The queue asks for a document title. You set the days, the time of day, and the timezone. The next item takes the next open slot. It does not post as a company page, and it does not update the Google Doc.

Start from the Google Doc

One lesson from one tab, then a 2–8 slide document post on your personal LinkedIn profile. BYOK $29/month. Managed $88/month.
